We saw so many things and our pupils said they were surprised and happy
how much they understood. Its been a pleasure listening to Laurence's
brilliant way of speaking'
You may choose to go outside of London (or around London) by car in a comfortable Vauxhall Zafira, which carries up to six passengers, to one of the following destinations: Bath – An elegant town built in limestone, you can visit the Roman Bath, John Wood the Elder’s masterpiece the Circus and the Royal Crescent. If you are a fan of Jane Austen there is also a museum dedicated to the 19th Century novelist. Canterbury – The cathedral is a spectacular piece of Gothic architecture and is the spot where Thomas Becket was murdered. You can also walk round the town and see the old weaver’s cottages, a tavern Charles Dickens stayed in and one of most photographed houses outside London. Cotswolds – Set in the luscious countryside of the heart of England, with thatched cottages built of limestone, you can visit some of the villages, enjoy a cream tea and shop in some of the most exquisite stores in the country. '
Hampton Court
- 'One of Henry V111's favourite palaces, the most
unusual collection of chimneys, a grand kitchen and the ghost of
Katherine Howard, this beautiful building stands proudly on the banks of
the River Thames. Salisbury – Built on a bed of gravel with shallow foundations and boasting the country’s tallest spire, the unique Gothic cathedral is enough on its own, but add the beautiful surroundings and the town is surely a sight not to be missed. Stonehenge – What was it for? Why was it built there? Who built it? These questions have never been answered, but the fact that it was built nearly 5000 years ago and much of it is still standing make it a feat of engineering genius. Stratford upon Avon – Originally a medieval market town, it is the birthplace of William Shakespeare and full of original Tudor buildings. You can visit his wife Anne Hathaway’s cottage, his eldest daughter’s house (now a museum) and see the church where he was baptised and buried. Winchester - King Arthur's Round Table, the burial site of novelist Jane Austen and King Alfred the Great , this gorgeous traditional city was once the capital of England. Windsor – One of the Queen’s favourite residences ,this is a splendid castle of stone in the wonderful Berkshire countryside and the grounds include St George’s Chapel where ten of our monarchs are buried, the sumptuous State. A Other destinations include Beaulieu with its National Motor Museum; Winston Churchill's beloved home Chartwell and Hever Castle, home of Anne Boleyn. Waddesden Manor, home of the Rothschilds, Hughenden Manor, home of Benjamin D'israeli, the Roal Dahl Museum and Rochester, where Charles Dickens spent the last years of his life.
