London Venues
'We wanted to know more
about the details of London, why are the streets named as the are, see
some of the unique side streets and buildings with a bit of Harry
Potter and Sherlock Holmes mixed in. Mission accomplished!
Thank you Laurence for a great day.'
British Museum - Opened over 250 years ago, this spectacular museum holds the incredible Parthenon Marbles, the Rosetta Stone , which is perhaps world’s most famous piece of stone, and a ginger-haired man who is 5000 years old! Greenwich – A UNESCO World Heritage site, steeped in maritime history. Visit the country’s first classical –style house, the Queen’s House, stroll around Wren’s magnificent Old Royal Naval College and take a walk up the hill to the Royal Observatory for breathtaking views of London.
Hampton Court
– See where Henry V111 gorged
himself in the Great Hall and visit the kitchens in which these banquets
were prepared. This site has the most unique collection of chimneys in
situ anywhere in the UK. St Paul’s Cathedral – Considered by many to be Wren’s masterpiece and built to replace the Norman cathedral destroyed in the Great Fire of London, this stunning building contains the tombs of Lord Admiral Horatio Nelson, the Duke of Wellington and Christopher Wren himself. Tower of London – Nearly a thousand years old, this edifice used to dwarf the rest of London. So many questions ………..why do the ravens have to remain at the Tower; what was and is the purpose of the Beefeaters; have the Crown Jewels ever been stolen; just how many people were beheaded inside its walls? Westminster Abbey – A fantastic work of Gothic genius, it has been the place of 38 coronations , 29 Royal burials and contains the bodies of over 3000 others people, including Sir Laurence Olivier, Isaac Newton , Charles Dickens and a plumber! Other London venues include visits to Buckingham Palace Guard Change, Covent Garden, Notting Hill, the National Gallery, Tate Britain and the Victoria and Albert Museum.
